ARCHIVES and DATABASES
Applied Science and Technology Index surveys over 600 journals in the fields of engineering, computer science, and other applied sciences. This index is available through the electronic resources at the BSU Library.
The Council on Technology Teacher Education Research page identifies CTTE-funded research projects and provides a link to Research Projects in Technology Education (2003).
ProQuest UMI Dissertation Publishing is a single, "authoritative source for information about doctoral dissertations and master's theses. The database represents the work of authors from over 1,000 graduate schools and universities." PQDT Open is an online repository of dissertations and theses published on an open access basis. BSU Library provides access to the ProQuest Database of Dissertations and Theses.
DLA, Virginia Tech's Digital Library and Archives, provides online access to numerous journals that are relevant to technology and industrial education, e.g., Journal of Technology Education, Journal of Career and Technical Education, and the Journal of Industrial Teacher Education. DLA is available at http://scholar.lib.vt.edu/ejournals/
The archive of the Clearinghouse on Adult, Career, and Vocational Education (ACVE) is available at http://cete.org/acve/
EBSCO HOST Research Databases. This online tool provides a consistent search interface to many useful databases, including ERIC, Academic Search Premier, and the Applied Science and Technology Index. This index is available through the electronic resources at the BSU University Libraries.
ERIC, the Educational Resources Information Center, contains more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations and abstracts from over 980 educational and education-related journals. To get the best search results, try these tips:
use the Advanced Search tool,
specify the Publication Type as Reports-Research or Dissertation/Theses, and
use ERIC Descriptors in your Keyword field.
The Thesaurus of ERIC Descriptors houses "a master list of more than 10,000 terms or subject headings used in indexing and searching ERIC records." You can search the ERIC Thesaurus at http://www.ericfacility.net/extra/pub/thessearch.cfm.
Ericae.net is the Eric clearinghouse for assessment, evaluation and research information. The How-To Series, a set of on-line, full-text books and booklets addressing practical evaluation, research, measurement, and statistical issues, is extremely helpful.
The Educational Testing Service's (ETS) Test Collection Database includes an extensive library of 20,000 tests and other measurement devices from the early 1900s to the present.
MCREL Compendium of K-12 Standards
Mental Measurements Yearbook Test Reviews Online is provided by the Buros Institute. Reviews may be purchased for $15 per test title.
NSDL, National Science Digital Library "The comprehensive source for science, technology, engineering and mathematics education. Funded by the National Science Foundation." Available from http://nsdl.org
Reed, P. (2002). Technology Education Graduate Research Database (1892-2000). Council on Technology Teacher Education Monograph #17. The Technology Education Graduate Research Database (TEGRD) is available in two forms. The first format is a monograph containing theses and dissertations from 1892-2000 that may be downloaded and printed. The second format is designed as an online, searchable database that contains the original studies but is also updated on a regular basis. Both may be accessed from CTTE Monograph #17 at http://www.teched.vt.edu/ctte/HTML/Monographs1.html
"ScienceDirect has evolved from a web database of Elsevier Science journals to one of the world's largest providers of scientific, technical and medical (STM) literature." A table of content and abstracts of each article are available free for each issue of the listed journals. ScienceDirect is available at http://www.sciencedirect.com/
"STATS Indiana is an information service of the Indiana Business Research Center at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business and receives major support from the State of Indiana through the Indiana Department of Commerce." This service provides access to statistical data by county for such topics as educational attainment, dropout rates, and school enrollment. STATS Indiana is available at http://www.stats.indiana.edu/education_topic_page.html
"The What Works Clearinghouse [WWC] was established in 2002 by the U.S. Department of Education's Institute of Education Sciences to provide educators, policymakers, researchers, and the public with a central and trusted source of scientific evidence of what works in education." The studies identified in this database have undergone a screening process against the WWC Evidence Standards.
